A Hot Day in Elkhorn with Cedar

There’s nothing like a summer road trip to Elkhorn, Nebraska, where the air was hot enough to make me question my life choices… until I remembered I was there to hang out with horses. Priorities, right?

This was my first time at Elkhorn Equestrian Center place, and I was welcomed by Jose himself—a man who wears more hats than I do in a week. Between giving kid lessons, training horses, and keeping the place rolling, he’s busy enough to make you tired just listening. But he still had time to fill me in on the latest news: a tornado had swept through just days before my arrival, taking out the top of one of their sheds. And, oh, Cedar the horse had gotten an unexpected “break” from riding thanks to Mother Nature.

I told him, “Well hey, at least Cedar didn’t go for a ride in the tornado,” and we both cracked up before carrying on with our session. Sometimes laughter really makes theses session run little more smoothly.

Meet CEE DS BOOZBAR, aka Cedar

Now let’s talk about the real star of the day: Cedar, a 2023 sorrel gelding with 45 days of professional riding under his cinch. He’s already showing a smart, willing mind and plenty of try—the kind of colt you know will go somewhere.

Dam: So Swoonpepto Playgun (by Frosted Playgun x MH Swoon For My Boon)

NSBA, WCHA, and herd work creds

Playgun and Boonsmal influence = cow sense deluxe.

Why Cedar?

45 days under saddle—progressing like a pro.

Correct conformation and athletic build.

Trainable, level-headed, and bred for cow sense.

Ready to head toward the performance pen or develop into an all-around ranch partner.

Cedar has the pedigree, the start, and the personality to make someone’s program shine. Whether you’re aiming for cowhorse, roping, or versatility, he’s the kind of prospect you’ll want to brag about later—“Yeah, I had an eye on him back when he was just 45 days in.”
